A number of problematic issues of online learning are being updated, related to: the complexity of objective assessment of students' knowledge, the lack of direct dialogue with the teacher, the need for technical preparation for classes and studying the interface of the educational environment. A fundamental element of the successful implementation of educational courses using distance learning technologies is the availability of an appropriate management system. The typical structure of such a system is considered (using Moodle as an example) and its main modules are described. A comparative analysis of the 6 most popular systems was carried out, which showed that commercial developments are not always better than free analogues. The traditional Moodle system showed the best results when compared with analogues, so it should be used as a basis for creating educational course management systems, with adaptation to the individual needs of the educational institution. Further development of the online education sphere is aimed at implementing the concept of blended learning, the model of which is presented in the article
